MY FENCE HAS BLOWN DOWN – WHAT SHOULD I DO?

A fence blown down in a storm

The stormy weather has been causing severe damage and – baton down the hatches – there’s another storm on the way tonight.

If your property remained unscathed after Storm Isha, Storm Jocelyn may create more problems. So, what can you do if you are looking out at broken fence panels blowing round your garden?

The sight of a broken fence panel causes great stress. You know you can’t leave it as more bad weather is forecast which could cause further damage.

Before working out how you are going to mend the fence, make sure that any broken panels have been moved to safety and prevent them from causing further hazard to others.

Here’s what to do about sorting out a broken fence:

STOP MORE DAMAGE

To minimise the risk of further damage, if the fence panel is down but undamaged, remove any loose nails and fixtures and move the panel to a safe area. Make sure it’s not leaning on another part of the fence as it may cause another area to become weak

CHECK THE REST OF THE FENCE

Make sure it’s securely intact and not going to create further problems. If other areas look problematic, prevent the risk by removing the loose panels.

PROTECT YOUR PROPERTY

Check the surrounding area and move things like garden furniture and plant pots to ensure that accidental damage is limited.
